Railway RRB Assistant Loco Pilot 2026 RRB ALP | Selection Process & Exam Pattern

The recruitment drive will be highly competitive and consists of five distinct stages:

Stage 1: First Stage CBT (CBT-1)

This is a screening test. The marks scored here will not be counted in the final merit list.

• Duration: 60 Minutes
• Total Questions: 75 Questions (75 Marks)
• Negative Marking: $1/3^{ ext{rd}}$ mark deduction for every wrong answer.
• Syllabus: Mathematics, Mental Ability, and General Science (10th standard level).

Stage 2: Second Stage CBT (CBT-2)

CBT-2 is divided into two distinct parts and forms the core of your merit evaluation:

• Total Questions: 175 Questions | Total Time: 2 Hours 30 Minutes
• Part-A (100 Questions | 90 Mins): Covers Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, and Basic Science & Engineering. Marks from Part-A determine your shortlisting.
• Part-B (75 Questions | 60 Mins): A purely qualifying test (35% passing marks required for all) based on your selected technical trade syllabus.

Stage 3: Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)

Candidates equal to 8 times the vacancies will be called for CBAT. There is no negative marking in this stage, but you must secure a minimum T-score of 42 marks in each test battery to qualify.

Stage 4 & 5: Document Verification (DV) & Medical Examination

The final merit list will be prepared based on a 50:50 weightage system combining your scores from CBT-2 Part-A (50%) and CBAT (50%). Shortlisted candidates will face strict identity verification and final medical authorization by Railway Medical Authorities.
